Storage
Store any leftover Christmas Punch (without ice) in an airtight pitcher or container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Since the soda will lose its fizz, it’s best enjoyed fresh, but you can revive it by adding a splash of Sprite or 7-UP before serving again. Freezing isn’t recommended, and because this punch is meant to be enjoyed chilled, reheating is not necessary.
Holly’s Tips for the Best Christmas Punch:
- Plan Ahead: I like to mix the orange juice and cranberry juice ahead of time when preparing this holiday punch for a party. It allows the flavors of the juices to sit and fuse together.
- Serve It Chilled: Keep this magic holiday drink mixture chilled in the fridge. Wait to add the Sprite or 7-Up soda, as well as the ice, right before your guests walk through the door. This way, this tasty punch will be freshly chilled with a nice effervescence that is crisp. If you add the sodas and ice too soon, it will leave the punch flat and watered down.
- Garnish It Your Way: This part is my favorite! I love slicing fresh oranges and placing them on top of the punch mixture. I also add in cranberries for color and rosemary for a piney note. If you have a little extra prep time, try adding clove buds to your orange slices. This will bring an herbaceous layer to your Christmas Punch.
- Christmas Punch For Everyone: This holiday drink is both kid-friendly and for adults. If you want to make an alcoholic version, I recommend 1 and a half ounces of liquor to 12 ounces of punch. This will ensure your beverage isn’t too strong. Try adding cranberry or orange-flavored soda to stay with the holiday palate. Rum and whiskey are also great spirit options! Note: Keep in mind that once alcohol is added, leftovers should be stored in the refrigerator and enjoyed within 1 day for the best flavor and freshness.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Yes! You can mix the cranberry juice and orange juice up to 24 hours in advance and keep it chilled in the refrigerator. Wait to add the soda, ice, and garnishes until just before serving so it stays bubbly and fresh.
Absolutely. If you prefer less sweetness or fizz, try replacing the soda with sparkling water, club soda, or even ginger ale for a different twist.
Instead of regular ice, freeze extra cranberry or orange juice into ice cubes. They’ll chill the punch without diluting the flavor as they melt.
