Storage
Store Cranberry Fluff in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It’s best made a day ahead, giving the flavors time to blend. Before serving, give it a gentle stir to refresh the texture. Freezing isn’t recommended, as the whipped cream and marshmallows can separate and become watery once thawed.
Holly’s Tips for The Best Cranberry Fluff:
- Use Fresh Cranberries: Fresh cranberries give the best tart flavor and vibrant color. If using frozen, thaw and pat them dry first to avoid extra moisture.
- Don’t Skip The Rinsing and Drying: Rinsing and drying the cranberries well helps prevent the fluff from becoming watery.
- Chill Time Matters: Letting the mixture rest in the fridge for a few hours allows the marshmallows to soften and the flavors to meld beautifully.
- Whip The Cream Just Right: Beat until stiff peaks form for the perfect fluffy texture. Overmixing can make it grainy.
- Adjust As Needed: Depending on how tart your cranberries are, you can add an extra tablespoon of sugar if desired.
- Make It Your Own: Fold in chopped pecans, crushed pineapple, or shredded coconut for a fun variation.
- Serve It Cold: This dessert tastes best chilled, making it a refreshing addition to any holiday spread.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Yes! Cranberry Fluff is perfect for making ahead. Prepare it a day in advance, cover, and refrigerate until serving. The extra chill time helps the flavors blend and the marshmallows soften.
Absolutely. If fresh cranberries aren’t available, frozen cranberries work just as well. Be sure to thaw them completely and pat them dry to prevent excess liquid in your fluff.
If your fluff turns watery, it’s usually because the cranberries weren’t dried thoroughly, or it sat too long before serving. To fix it, stir gently and refrigerate again to help it firm up.
Yes, you can substitute 8 ounces of Cool Whip for the heavy whipping cream to save time. However, homemade whipped cream gives a fresher, richer flavor and fluffier texture.
Try mixing in chopped pecans, crushed pineapple, or shredded coconut for extra flavor and texture. These additions pair perfectly with the creamy cranberry base.
To make this Cranberry Fluff recipe dairy-free, simply swap out the heavy whipping cream for a plant-based alternative. Use coconut cream (the thick part from a chilled can of full-fat coconut milk) or a dairy-free whipped topping like So Delicious CocoWhip or TruWhip Vegan. Whip the coconut cream or use the ready-made topping just as you would heavy cream.
Everything else in the recipe is naturally dairy-free, so with this one simple swap, you’ll have a creamy, fluffy, dairy-free Cranberry Fluff that’s perfect for anyone avoiding milk or cream!
This Cranberry Fluff recipe is naturally gluten-free, as fresh cranberries, mini marshmallows, grapes, sugar, and heavy whipping cream contain no gluten. To ensure it stays gluten-free, use marshmallows labeled gluten-free and make sure any mix-ins, like cookies or granola, are certified gluten-free. With these simple checks, you can enjoy a safe and delicious gluten-free holiday treat.

We have this every year, but make it a bit differently. We put the ground cranberries, marshmallows, and sugar mixed and in the refrigerator over night. In the morning we add the grapes, chopped apples (I use Granny Smith) and chopped walnuts then fold in unsweetened whipped cream and refrigerate for a few hours. It’s not Thanksgiving without it!
