I love the holiday season for so many reasons—the time spent with my family, decorating my home, and, of course, all the delicious baked treats! Halloween is such a fun time of year to make Halloween cupcakes and other themed spooky treats. These Mummy Cupcakes are not only cute and festive but also super easy to make, making them one of my favorite easy Halloween recipes.

MUMMY CUPCAKES

I’m not one for super scary movies or anything that jumps out to make me scream, and that was my inspiration for these cupcakes. I wanted to create a homemade Halloween treat that had just the right amount of “spook” while still being fun, sweet, and kid-friendly.

When we make these cupcakes, I let my kids take the lead on decorating because anyone can do it! Just pipe the frosting in a zigzag, add two M&M’s or candy eyeballs, and you’re done. Even toddlers can help! 😉 These cupcakes are not only super fun to make but also delicious… I mean, mummy-licious!

Why You’ll Love This Halloween Mummy Cupcakes Recipe:

Storage and Reheating

Store your Mummy Cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to keep the cupcakes soft and the frosting fresh. Avoid refrigerating if possible, as this can dry out the cupcakes and make the frosting harder. If you do refrigerate, let them come to room temperature before serving for the best texture and flavor. Reheating isn’t necessary, as these cupcakes are best enjoyed at room temperature, but you can warm them slightly in the microwave for 5–10 seconds if desired.

Holly’s Tips for The Best Mummy Cupcakes:

  • Use Room-Temperature Butter: Softened butter ensures your frosting is smooth and easy to pipe.
  • Mix Frosting Thoroughly: Combine powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and boiling water well to get a creamy, lump-free consistency.
  • Pipe Carefully: Cut a small corner of a sandwich bag for piping zigzag frosting; go slowly for neat mummy lines.
  • Candy Eyes Placement: Add M&M’s or candy eyeballs on top after piping the frosting while it’s still soft so they stick well.
  • Fun For The Whole Family: These cupcakes are kid-friendly; let little ones decorate for a fun Halloween activity.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I make Mummy Cupcakes ahead of time?

Yes! You can bake the chocolate cupcakes in advance and store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Decorate them closer to serving for the freshest frosting.

Can I use store-bought cupcakes for this recipe?

Yes! I used store-bought cupcakes for this recipe. If you bake your own, make sure you let them cool completely before decorating, so the frosting doesn’t melt away.

What flavor of cupcakes should I use for this recipe?

I used chocolate, but you can get creative with any flavor you love and make it your own!

Can I use different candy for the mummy eyes?

Absolutely! M&M’s, candy eyeballs, or even Skittles work perfectly for the mummy eyes. Get creative with different colors or shapes!

How do I make the frosting smooth and easy to pipe?

Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature, then mix thoroughly with powdered sugar, vanilla, and boiling water until smooth.

Can I adjust the frosting flavor?

Yes! You can add a small amount of cocoa powder, almond extract, or other flavorings to the frosting to customize it to your taste.

How can I make this Mummy Cupcakes recipe gluten-free?

Use a gluten-free chocolate cupcake mix or homemade recipe, and be sure all candies like M&M’s or candy eyeballs are labeled gluten-free. The frosting ingredients—powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and water—are naturally gluten-free, so you can follow the same piping and decorating steps as usual.

What toppings can I use for this cupcake recipe?

Decorate these cupcakes with M&M candies, Skittles, or candy eyeballs. I found my candy eyeballs at Walmart.
