When I first started, I had absolutely no expectations, and I’m so grateful for what it’s grown into. So of course, I had to celebrate with a very special recipe today! All you need to make the best steak bites is 1 ½ lbs of your favorite flat iron or top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch pieces, with only 7 pantry ingredients to make the homemade steak marinade. That’s it! For best results, let the steak marinate overnight or chill in the fridge for 15 minutes. This quick steak bites recipe method involves cooking them in a skillet, but I will also break down how to cook them in the air fryer below if that’s your preferred method. They will cook relatively fast, usually around 4 minutes, so you will have a restaurant-style meal ready to go in minutes! Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 Tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ lbs. flat iron or top sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch pieces

Instructions

Place all ingredients, except the steak, in a large ziplock baggie. Stir with a spoon to combine.

Drop steak pieces in and seal shut. Shake gently to coat the steak entirely in the marinade. Place the bag in the refrigerator to marinate for 15 minutes or up to 24 hours. (The longer it marinates, the more flavorful and tender the steak will be.)

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Heat the skillet until it’s very hot. Remove steak pieces from the marinade using a slotted spoon and place in a hot skillet. Discard marinade. Cook the steak according to your desired temperature. We like medium-well so I cooked ours for about 3 minutes.

Serve warm and enjoy!

To freeze, place steak bites can be frozen in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months and let them thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

  • Let It Marinate Overnight: If you’re short on time, you can marinate the steak at least 30 minutes. But if you have more time, letting it sit up to 24 hours in the refrigerator will make the steak even more tender and flavorful.
  • Cook Over Medium Heat In Skillet: A cast-iron skillet or heavy stainless-steel pan works best. Heat it over medium-high heat until very hot before adding the steak. The hot surface locks in juices and creates that delicious steakhouse-style crust.
  • Avoid Overcooking: Steak bites cook quickly. Depending on size and preferred doneness, they usually need 2-4 minutes total. Turn them once halfway through cooking for even browning.
  • Make It Your Own: For extra flavor, sprinkle with fresh parsley, a little cracked black pepper, or a small pat of butter right before serving. This simple step enhances both flavor and presentation.

      Do as Holly said, you probably cooked it too long, I usually do for just a couple minutes turning them take a thermometer and check what temp it is, usually I cook mine little rare or pink. you did it well done and it gets like shoe leather… GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.

  3. I like the idea of being able to use a cheaper cut of meat to achieve a “good steak” taste and texture. I followed the recipe exactly but 2 Tablespoons of basil seemed way to much, for us anyway. I’ll greatly reduce it next time

        Right, Avocado Oil you can get at Costco, it cost about $9.00 and change but it too is high heat, and very good, and it is not a gallon neither. It is a lesser amount.

  6. I used these for a low-carb stir fry tonight, and they were AWESOME. I marinated the beef tips (I used stew beef) overnight in a ziploc bag, then baked them until nearly done in the oven. Then I drained the liquid off, tossed the beef tips into a pot with a bagged stir fry veggie mix (bok choi and other fresh veggies, not frozen), added a little sesame oil and tossed until the veggies were *just* wilted. No other seasoning needed and the normally tough stew beef was SO tender.

    Bonus: I had enough beef tips left over for another meal tomorrow.

  8. A little too “herby” for my families liking. Are 2 tablespoons dried basil correct? Maybe 2 teaspoons would not knock us out like they did tonight for our dinner. I used flat iron steaks and they were tender, but again way too many herbs.

  9. I made this tonight I think the cut of meat was a bit tough, also a bit to salty, any ideas on what to use to not make it so salty and a better cut of meat?

  11. I keep meaning to come back and comment on this recipe and I finally just made myself do it. This recipe is phenomenal! My fiancé calls it the best thing he’s ever gotten from the internet. We’ve put it on steak bites, full steak, pork chops, salmon, and chicken. It’s been absolutely wonderful every single time.     I made the recipe but I toned down the basil and added some thyme instead. I also added a large splash of red wine vinegar. I think next time I make it I would add red pepper flakes to the marinade because for me it needed a bit of zip. Also i have a soy allergy so I subbed coconut aminos.
